You can make a very favorable first impression by the way you carry yourself, your appearance and personal conduct. Bearing opens a lot of doors for people that are aware of what it is and how people perceive it. Think about it, have you ever looked at someone and immediately wondered who they were or what they do because of the confidence they displayed? Wherever you are people take notice of someone that displays a strong character and charisma. Some will be jealous while others will be inspired to find out more about the person.
Bearing is not a part time position, if you have displayed outstanding bearing then you have set an example that people will expect from you at all times. I have observed leaders that initially displayed outstanding bearing until a problem was recognized and they quickly removed themselves from the situation. You have to consistently display outstanding bearing in appearance, personal conduct and professional conduct.

Let's use an example, Chris provided an excellent example of bearing until he consumed alcohol; it was a weakness he had and he failed to recognize it. He was initially highly respected and sought after for advice. It only took one evening to destroy the image he had set for himself. People's impression of you can change from outright respect to total disappointment depending on the bearing and image you present. Consider your attire, vocabulary and keep total control of your actions. It can and will bring loads of recognition, guard it wisely.
