Loyalty can be a powerful tool as long as it isn't abused. I have worked with people that loyalty scared them as they were worried about team members having a stronger sense of loyalty to an individual vice the organization. You will work with leaders that you have intense loyalty to but the overall organization has to have your unquestionable loyalty.

A leader must have loyalty to the organization, policies, and procedures and to the team as well. Loyalty demands trust and respect as it's impossible to follow someone that you don't believe in. Loyalty is a trait that requires a person to use sound judgment in regards to their faithfulness.
I have served with certain leaders that desired blind loyalty demanding that what ever they said should never be second guessed even if it challenged organizational values. These leaders in my opinion were poor examples of leadership as they felt they were more important than the organization. This places associates in a terrible position causing confusion and uneasiness. Fortunately there are resources available to you if you should be subjected to this style of leadership.
You can be totally loyal to your organization and the team members alike by using common sense, sound judgment and respect. I have been intensely loyal to one of my former organizations as they never failed my morals, values or beliefs. The leadership was outstanding and the organization always kept everyone informed of their expectations.
