5 Traits That Successful Leaders Show in Business

While there are many traits that successful leaders demonstrate in business, today we are going to focus on five of these traits. By taking personal inventory with yourself and evaluating where you are when it comes to demonstrating these traits in your business, you will have a scorecard to evaluate where you are in the process of becoming an effective leader in any business.

Trait #1 - Leaders master the process of edification. A leader always builds up people. A leader never puts down people. When a leader is introducing someone on a training call or at an event, the leader knows how to speak highly of the individual they are introducing to the people. This is because a leader understands that if he or she speaks highly of the person they are introducing, the leader's team will pay attention, take notes and will more likely apply the information. Leaders also edify the people in their organization and speak highly of them as well.

Trait #2 - A leader is the first to arrive and the last to leave. It doesn't matter whether it is a live event or a conference call. A leader makes sure that he or she is there first. If it is a live event, a leader will help to set up the room, make sure the chairs are in place and make sure that event has everything it needs to be a successful event. If it is a conference call, the leader will make sure all of the features on the call are working properly so that the team can get the information that will be shared.

Trait #3 - A leader has vision for the company and vision for his or her organization. A leader knows where the company will be 5 or 10 years for now, which is why he or she is working so hard right now. A leader has a vision for where his or her organization is going to be 5 or 10 years from now and is working hard to make that vision a reality. A leader shares this vision with his or her team and inspires them with the vision.

Trait #4 - A leader leads from the front, not from the back. A leader doesn't tell his or her team members to do something that the leader isn't doing first. In fact a true leader does MORE than what he or she is asking the team to do.

Trait #5 - A leader continues to develop and improve personally. A leader never feels that he or she knows it all and can't learn from other people. A leader takes notes at training events even from people teaching that are at a lower rank, make less money or been in the business for a shorter period of time because a leader recognizes that he or she can learn from everyone. A leader constantly invests time, energy and money into anything that he or she feels can help make that leader better and teaches this concept to the team. By following these traits of leadership, you will in turn become the leader that you were meant to be and have a group of other leaders following you in the process. In short, this will add up to you being successful and making a lot of money.
