Leadership - 5 Common Traits of Poor Leaders

When we work for a good leader we are more motivated to go the extra mile to deliver results. On the other hand working for a poor leader can be a real nightmare. So what are 5 common traits of poor leaders that you want to avoid?

Trait 1: Not communicating

The leader who is not communicating might not be taking the time to explain what is happening what is required or expected or when things are needed. Alternatively they might not be listening to any feedback or input that they are getting from others.

Trait 2: Lacking interest

People need to feel valued to get behind a leader and help them achieve results. If a leader shows no interest or concern for others they will quite simply switch off or worse leave and go elsewhere.

Trait 3: Passing the buck

You probably have come across this type of leader at some point in your career. You know the boss who when things are not going well blames everyone else or the circumstances for the results. Remember leaders are paid to deliver results and take responsibility not to play pass the parcel.

Trait 4: Humiliating others

We are all human and we all make mistakes. When mistakes are made a good leader will take the person aside and deal with the issues privately. The poor leader is more likely to humiliate people in front of colleagues.

Trait 5: Not supporting others

It is almost impossible to achieve anything as a leader without the support of others. The best leaders recognise this. The poor leaders by comparison will be too focused on themselves that they forget or just don't actively seek out the support of others.

Bottom Line - You get to choose the type of leader you are. Will you be the leader who demonstrates great traits or the poor leader who distances themselves and does not deliver?
