Let's first consider moral courage. Making decisions on matters that involves tough decisions and acknowledging right from wrong. I was advised by a very wise leader years ago that you should always trust your instincts. The way he explained it to me was that there is the honest side of us that will momentarily challenge us if we are about to make a poor moral decision. If you take time to listen to your instincts then you will typically make a wiser decision.
I worked with a person senior to me that made countless poor moral courage decisions. It wasn't obvious at first as he was good at hiding issues and had plenty of other people to blame things on. In his position it wasn't a logical decision to challenge him without proof. Other leaders on the team approached me and made a list of complaints about him.
Someone had to approach him about these issues so I made the decision to compile the list and approach him. This took a lot of moral courage as this man was my boss but it had to be done. Incredibly as we went over the list he agreed and said he would change. Less than 3 weeks later was fired for issues of greater severity than we realized. It made our team a stronger one as we all displayed moral courage together by challenging his poor leadership.
Physical courage is another form of courage that we face frequently. We all have physical limitations and there are challenges that we are scared of facing. Some people are terrified of heights and water to name a few. I was a member of an organization that realized this and made an obstacle course to allow you to increase your confidence. There were loads of members that initially said they could not perform these tasks. Incredibly after 2 hours the majority was completing the obstacles and excited to do them again. There was a few that required personal coaching but with training they also overcame the obstacles.
The point I am trying to make to you is that Courage is a major part of your thinking process. No you can't lift 200 pounds because you used physical courage but you can overcome obstacles you previously thought impossible. Please try trusting your instinct's before making decisions and hopefully they will work for you as well as they have for me.
